Route 66 Centennial
San Pedro Mainstreet: Bridging the Past with the Future
As we approach the centennial celebration of Route 66 in 2026, the Revitalize San Pedro Partnership (RSPP) is proud to lead efforts to preserve and celebrate the unique stories and places along this iconic corridor. Route 66 is more than a historic highway—it’s a thread that ties together diverse communities, cultural landmarks, and local businesses, embodying the spirit of Albuquerque and the San Pedro Corridor.
Our Vision for the Route 66 Centennial
Preserving the legacy of Route 66 is not just about honoring the past but also creating opportunities for the future. Our Route 66 initiatives aim to:
Celebrate the San Pedro Corridor's rich history, from its connections to Route 66 to its role in Albuquerque’s growth.
Highlight underrepresented stories of the communities along Route 66, including people of color, immigrants, veterans, and small business owners.
Attract visitors and investment to the San Pedro Corridor by enhancing its cultural and historical appeal.
MICRO66: A Highlight of Innovation and Heritage
One of our signature projects, MICRO66, focuses on preserving and celebrating the Cal-Linn Building, where Microsoft was founded in 1975. Located just north of Route 66, this site is a testament to the innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that continues to define Albuquerque.
MICRO66 plans include:
Restoring and upgrading the Microsoft monument at the Cal-Linn Building.
Installing lighting and wayfinding signage to guide visitors from Route 66 to this historic site.
Hosting events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Microsoft in 2025 and the Route 66 Centennial in 2026.
Incorporating interpretive materials to tell the stories of the Cal-Linn Building and the surrounding International District.
